Yes, marching is the perfect way to get this administration to support and cherish our scientific expertise!

    This is YUGE!

And also Sad! that we have to do this.

By the end of the The First 100 Orange Days we’ll likely have a Frequent Marcher program. Use points towards reclaiming your democracy.

This Republican regime only hears what they want to hear, and they will basically ignore this march like they will ignore any that doesn’t fit into their distorted world-view. They barely acknowledged the women’s march last weekend with millions of people in DC and across the world, and it apparently made little difference in how they’re planning on remaking the country in their image. The days of “marches” as effective political protest tool are over and serve only to help the aggrieved feel better for a short time. While valuable, there has to be a better way to sway the voting public on how they are being screwed by the republican regime. The only thing republicans respond to is threats to their power.

Not, they are not. They send a message and will be heard around the world (Not My President) and more importantly will snd a message to politicians that this matters to many of us so better be careful, especially in areas where there are many swing voters. Lastly, you may want to be able to claim to your grandkids that you stood up when Trumpelstielzchen destroyed the US. Remember the question many Germans got asked after 1945? Why didn’t you do something?

Marching may not be sufficient but it is necessary.
Public demonstrations do send a message. It’s not just Trump who needs to hear the message. Many who do not participate in the march can be affected and moved to action by those who do march. And marchers can be energized and motivated to engage in long lasting organized efforts at the grassroots/back home/local that will make a difference.
Organized efforts are what bring about change and organizing a march is a first step to organizing the long sustained efforts that must follow. A march alone is not sufficient, yes, but it is necessary. We must protest, for ourselves, for our fellow citizens, for the world. And then we must follow up with action

That Scientist’s March revolutionary Flag looks like Soviet / Maoist era propagandist artwork – a.k.a. Workers of the World Unite – plus, an Atomic twist on Mao’s famous phrase “political power comes from the barrel of a gun”.

Did anyone show up to the march? I bet it was a flop. If anything, it highlights what little appeal scientists and science have in mainstream America.

    ^Hasn’t happened yet.

I do wonder if this is going to add science to the growing list of things that Trumpists see as illegitimate because they’re “biased”. I suppose losing them was inevitable, since they already are pretty leery of the whole concept of facts.

Yeah, if we scientists just keep our heads down and under the radar, they’ll only go after the muslims, immigrants, non-whites, non-christians, humanists and artists, jews, etc, but we scientists will totally be fine.

And BTW, the purpose of demonstrating isn’t to sway the sickos currently running the govt. It’s to give the Dem opposition party some comfort that they should sacke the fucke uppe.

Also it’s not like the Bannon Administration was ever a big fan of science & facts to begin with.

These are not normal times, my friends. The revolution has come, and it is not the one we were hoping for. Time to take a stand. Or work on your explanation for posterity for how “we had no idea what was really happening!”

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
