The latest from Backyard Brains…
When I walked up this year the rig seemed curiously sophisticated compared with past efforts…
SfN must be on to these guys…no live roaches this year….
Anyway, their schweeetly fabbed plastic bits?
They built it all themselves using a Makerbot. Tim claimed about a $2,000 cost for the bot. Niiiice

Did SfN get pissed off that they had live roaches at their dealio last year?

I stopped by one of their posters today. They said that SFN did tell them no roaches this year (SFN does have a no animals policy). They were demoing voltage changes on a venus fly trap today and human electromyography the other day. In the long-run, the SFN ban might be good for them because it’s motivating them to design more uses for their hardware. Those uses might be welcome in more schools that might want to avoid live roaches and can help integrate their product into more distinct lessons.
