Self-portraits…..on DRUGS!

August 9, 2012

This is pretty interesting. An artist decided to draw a series of self-portraits after consuming different psychoactive compounds.
There are 45 of them so click on over. I gotta say, I’d really like to have seen him do his study project blinded to drug identity. Perhaps even more interestingly, he’s been doing one self-portrait per day and is up in the 8,000s.

Naturally I picked this particular one to highlight because it is pretty much my mental image of a certain ex-co-blogger.

This is great, and it reminds me of: http://www.cowboybooks.com.au/html/acidtrip1.html

I’d really like to see something a little more focused–SARt. What would these drawings look like on, say, a series of structurally related phenethylamines or tryptamines (PiHKAL/TiHKAL, anybody?) There must be at least a handful of unemployed psychonauts who double majored in studio arts and chemistry who have the time and ability to do it.

  3. I always liked the amphetamine derivatives–particularly MDMA–more than shrooms. Nowadays I just keep it to the wine and booze, and an occasional doobie if someone else is holding.

It looks pretty bogus imo. Nobody who actually smokes weed uses the term “marijuana” for one thing. It’s like his stereotypical idea about the drugs. yes, a blind experiment where he simply tried to draw the best representation of himself might be interesting though.

As for PP, the drinking character in this video makes me think of him, especially towards the end when he’s getting combative.

Oh c’mon Pp. you know that’s what you look like when some postdoc brings you the latest data.

That dude pretty much defines the term psychonaut: huffing solvents, etc and reporting back, so you don’t have to.
