I have reviewed for some of these alleged “dump journals.” I can attest that there are some folks who lack even the ability to generate garbage worthy of the dump.

Depends on why you are dumping the paper. If its because the results are crappy, then its best to keep it secret. If its because the results are solid but mundane, well there’s nothing wrong with a dump journal.

We had a name for them: “Acta Retracta,” but some of those journals are perfectly good. Sometimes, you just can’t get the whole perfect story together because of time, graduation, expense, etc, or it’s just a good place to clear your lab notebook.
