Congratulations Dr. becca!
June 17, 2011
I wish to extend my warmest congratulations to our long term reader, annoyer of cobloggers, holder of feet to the fire and all around insightful and hilarious commenter becca who announced the successful defense of her dissertation today.
7 years…6 committee members…5 giant full lab notebooks…4 manuscripts/drafts…3 Thesis Advisors…2 grey hairs…1 PhD
You can tell from this and from the occasional details she posts in comments around the scientific blogs that it has not been an easy road. And yet she has persevered and succeeded in being awarded the Ph.D. for her work.
Congratulations, my friend.
Congratulations on all of your hard work, late nights and frustrating experiments.
I am very much looking forward to the tales of your next endeavors as a scientist.

Bloody well done! You worked hard for this. I’ve only known you a wee while but I got the impression this hasn’t been easy. Tenacity is essential in a scientist 🙂

Maybe the “old” Dr. Becca should now be “Prof. Becca” while Becca is now the new Dr. Becca.
Anyway, congrats! Maybe CPP will stop picking on you now…

Thankee kindly, all!
@DM, thankee especially. I don’t know if it was more wishful thinking or wise perspective, but I appreciate that you always seemed to think it was a given I’d get through (eventually).
Though someone needs to congratulate my PhD advisor on his patience. He’s right; it’s like parenting in that you get all of the blame if it goes awry, but little of the credit when it goes well.
Now, please schmack CPP upside the head with a bullshit comment about fine wine or yummy cheese and things that get better with age (yeah, I know grad students don’t, generally. but some of us do actually need to mature a little. Crickies.)
@Dr. Becca- I have been pondering this problem. I think the B vs. b distinction would be far too subtle. If you do not wish to become a well-earned Prof Becca, I will most likely remain becca.
@Tideliar- what I always wonder about is the difference between Einstein (“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”) and Edison (“I haven’t failed, I’ve found 10,000 ways that don’t work”). My PhD experience was definitely more of the later.
@Pharm Sci Grad- Thank you as well, and go go GO! The last stretch was not the one with the biggest roadblocks for me, but it is good to finish strong so I wish you all the energy you can throw at your own thesis/defense. *hugs*

Oh Becca,
Now you finally leave that endless grad student rage behind and concentrate on that lusty, frothy post-doc rage yet to come!
Congrats!
