Are you attending the Society for Neuroscience meeting?

October 2, 2009

I’ll be in attending the SfN meeting which runs Oct 17-21 in Chicago this year. As I noted before, the society is looking to jump onto the social media bandwagon. Haltingly..but still.
I’m looking forward to seeing how enthusiastically this gets adopted. I will consider it success if I see a Twitt about some great poster that I otherwise would have missed in time to visit it. That would appear to be a good use of this technology to me.
anyway… enough blather. On to blog bid’ness.

If you sent me your presentation details (by email or in a comment) I would do my best to swing by your poster or talk (this is much less likely because of scheduling issues). A few people took me up on this last year and I was pretty interested in seeing my readers in action- saw some hot science (as the kids say) too.
Then there’s the question of a meetup of neuroscience-y bloggers and blog readers. I had fun last year chatting with a bunch of you and I’ve received an inquiry or two about this year. So I’ll leave it up to you all. If you are interested drop a comment or send me an email. I’m not promising much because my pseud (and yours!) complicates things slightly but we should be able to work out something if there is interest.

Hmmm… One has barely time to walk through all the posters. Who will have time to twitter about them?! I predict failure.
Before I forget! Pro-Test for Science will have a booth at SfN. There is something to tweet about! Stop by to sign the petition and talk about where we will go from here. Hope to see you in Chicago!

Hell, if there are drinks and people….I generally vote thumbs up. It is one of my many former home towns so I have a strong association with boozing and chicago.
    I say…aye!

Not to drudge up bad memories or anything but if there is a drink meetup can we make it some place that isn’t closed? 🙂

Just (finally!) made my plane reservations. So: will be there, will send poster details, would be in favour of meeting people. Especially anyone who feels like doing the extended tasting menu at Alinea…

I will be at Violet Hour every night, drinking away my per diem in fancy Prohibition Era cocktails. However, as I am on the job market, I could probably be dragged to Alinea for a recruitment dinner.
Unrelated: I am different from the commenter who goes by lowercase becca. Is there a precedent? I’m new, should I change my name?

I imagine people can distinguish Dr Becca from becca so no biggie. Plus also, there’s the whole voice thing- it tends to distinguish people as well.
