About BikeMonkey

August 22, 2007

The DM tries to be pretty coy and somewhat polite, not so much me. Apparently the “About DM” page keeps a steady hit count so clearly people wanna know who’s talking.

So, about BikeMonkey (the blogger) and the mission on DrugMonkey (the blog, not the blogger):

  • He lives in cycling paradise, San Diego CA. So posts may be sprinkled with rides and locations local to SD, try not to get too jealous!
  • He’s employed in biomedical research, can run a Pubmed search and interpret a paper somewhat. So there may be some amateurish discussion of cycling physiology, bike-racer doping (actually what DM wanted originally) and other cycling-related science.
  • He is old, fat, out-of-shape and has a RealLife; the picture is from “before…long before”. Some posts may trend towards those dreary old articles in Bicycling “How My Bike Saved My Life” and such crap. Others may trend towards “how to keep exercising in RealLife”. You can safely ignore this boring stuff.
  • Ex-racer. Road, MTB, track. Purely amateur, no great shakes, not braggin’. This is not, however, going to be about cycle touring, old guys with beards on recumbants or the like.
  • Scientists tend toward data, cyclists love to obsess about data- ever heard of a ski-computer, a running-computer or a swimming-computer? no? Well the cyclocomputer is about as universal a component as the water bottle. ’nuff said. He’s both a scientist and a cyclist… you’ve been warned.
  • He cut his teeth in Usenet rec.bicycles.* groups. There will be opinions expressed. You’ve been warned.
  • Campy (but not religious about it, plenty of Shitmano in the garage)
  • He’s a bit promiscuous. Steel, Carbon, Ti and Al are all currently in the garage.
